LAURA M. RANUM

Laura joined the firm in 2015 and represents government agencies throughout the State of Illinois in complex civil rights litigation in both state and federal court.  She has significant experience in all aspects of litigation with a focus on Section 1983 and constitutional litigation.  Laura has assisted in the facilitation of client-favorable resolutions in the form of dispositive motions, trial and out of court settlement.  Noteworthy achievements include successfully arguing before the Seventh Circuit for summary judgment in favor of her clients to be affirmed in a 1994 reverse conviction lawsuit, and serving as part of a trial team who won a jury verdict in favor of their client in a malicious prosecution claim stemming from a criminal child sexual abuse case.

Laura received her law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University.  Ms. Ranum previously worked for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General as an Assistant Attorney General. As an AAG, Laura worked in the Civil Rights Unit where she defended state agencies and officials in high profile civil rights litigation.  Ms. Ranum is an active member of the Chicago community and currently serves on the March of Dimes Chicago March for Babies Leadership Council.
