Illinois Municipal Torts Lawyers

At The Sotos Law Firm, we serve as counsel to local and government agencies to represent their interests in defending against municipal tort claims. Our Chicago area municipal torts attorneys understand the level of service required to successfully defend against a wide variety of personal injury claims.

Illinois Municipal Negligence Claims Attorney

Citizens bring tort claims against municipalities and public officials for a myriad of reasons, including car accidents involving state- or local government-owned vehicles, premises liability claims for slip-and-fall accidents on public property, and claims of missing signage and damages to personal property from potholes. We have successfully represented counties, cities, townships and park districts in numerous tort claims by performing thorough investigations, examining all elements of a claim and providing expert mediation and litigation services.

For instance, our attorneys recently successfully defended a county highway engineer in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a one vehicle rollover accident. The plaintiff alleged the county was negligent in failing to provide proper signage at the approach to a sharp curve in the road. Through our knowledge of the immunities available to municipalities, we were successful in persuading the plaintiff's attorney to dismiss the lawsuit against our client on the basis of the Illinois Tort Immunity Act without having to file a motion to dismiss.
Our firm also takes pride in providing in-depth legal opinions to a variety of municipal entities involved in significant and complex legal disputes, including issues related to public financing of litigation against municipal board members sued in their official capacity, eminent domain, negligence willful misconduct and personal injury claims against a city or government entity. The breadth of experience the lawyers at The Sotos Law Firm bring to municipalities allows us to efficiently and effectively mediate against damages, and avoid litigation whenever possible.
