Laura received her law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School. While there she represented Notre Dame at the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Midwest Regional Competition in 2008 and 2009, and in 2009 was named a Top Oralist for the Midwest Region. Upon graduation in 2009, Laura moved back to Chicago and began her career in private practice, focusing on employment law matters. In 2012, she joined the Office of the Illinois Attorney General as an Assistant Attorney General. As an AAG, Laura worked in the Civil Rights Unit where she defended state agencies and officials in high profile civil rights litigation, with a focus on Section 1983 and Constitutional litigation. Laura earned her B.A. in Political Science at Northwestern University in 2006, where she graduated with Departmental Honors.
