Daniel J. McGinnis

Dan joined The Sotos Law Firm in April 2018. He represents government agencies and officials in state and federal court and advises private organizations in complex civil litigation. He has significant experience in Section 1983 and constitutional litigation.

Prior to joining the firm, Dan worked as a law clerk for Judge Charles P. Kocoras of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He also served as Assistant Counsel to the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives.

Dan received his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2015. While there, he served as an executive board member on the Student Bar Association and an associate editor on the Journal of International and Comparative Law. During law school, Dan interned at the Council on American Islamic Relations, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and was an extern for Judge Pamela Hollis of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Before obtaining his law degree, Dan worked as a corps member with Teach For America, where he taught second grade on the West Side of Chicago for two years.
